Drama and Theatre
European-Style Villa Powder Room

Floor Plans — After

Project Overview: This powder room has a high profile: Situated off the foyer, it's the first room you see upon entering the home. The homeowner wanted to make it the most dramatic room in the house, and we were happy to oblige.

Previously, this long and narrow room suffered from a poor layout, such as a toilet that could be seen from the foyer. We reconfigured things to tuck the toilet away and instead showcase an alcove with a statue. A glass pedestal sink back-painted with gold, along with artwork of garden scenes add to the room’s ornate beauty.

Oddly enough, the powder room's most unique feature is its custom designed mahogany door. The story begins with an iron lion’s head that we had found and purchased. We designed a "medieval" door around this lion feature, complete with wooden clavos. The door was heavily distressed to create the illusion it had been discarded on the estate and then reclaimed years later. The romance of this fictional tale contributes to the drama of the room, which is right in line with the homeowner’s tastes.
