Project Overview: These homeowners originally hired us to furnish and complete their living room. They wanted something that was contemporary and incorporated their favorite earth tones.
Of Danish descent, the couple owned an original Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen. After finding a multi-way stretch fabric, we were able to reupholster the chair. We also custom-designed two sofas and ottomans, and introduced other modern classics to maintain the look. The finishing touches: a few Oriental pieces, which can mix so well with contemporary design and keep it from looking too severe.
Shortly after we began the project, the couple asked us to design an addition to the living room to accommodate a grand piano they had just bought. To form the entry to this new space, we removed a sliding glass door and created two elliptical columns with built-in lighting in the soffits.
With the introduction of custom-designed bookcases and a cozy window seat, the piano room also became a reading area. Tactile and luxurious fabrics address the homeowners’ taste for the contemporary while giving the room a bit of gravitas.
The addition also included a sun room that connected to the kitchen. This resulted in a wonderful breakfast area with willow furniture and terra cotta floor tile for an outdoor feel. We even found a large copper pot at an old chocolate factory that was closing; this is used as a unique planter.
