How the Process Works
At Wilson Kelsey Design, our job is to save you time and deliver a design that makes you love to come home. It's as simple as that. Along the way, we seek your input in making decisions that will shape the look and feel of your new or renovated space. After all, it's your house; we want it to reflect you.
Here's how we work:
Launch
We begin our collaboration by gathering a wealth of information through a detailed questionnaire and a personal interview in your home. During this phase, we review logistical items such as project goals, budget, wish lists, timeline and scope of work. But we also spend time on the emotional aspects of your addition or renovation. How do you want the space to make you feel when it's completed? By the end of Launch, we have developed an in-depth understanding of who you are and what you expect from us.
Design Development
We start this intensely creative phase by developing two-dimensional plans that address the basic functional needs of your space — and then working with you to choose the best solution. Once we have finalized the space plan, we bring you many options for finishes, furniture and fabrics, and provide guidance on making selections. This leads to more sketches and drawings. Once you approve these design drawings, they act as the basis for construction drawings.
Implementation
At this point, we create the tools necessary to make your project come to life. Depending upon your projec's scope, this phase may include construction drawings, which have the information contractors need to bid on the project, or cabinet drawings. It may also involve the scheduling of decorative workrooms to make the cabinets, window treatments, upholstery work or fine-quality painting.
During Implementation, we help you review proposals and choose a contractor. Concurrent with the many other activities, we are placing orders for furniture, fabrics, lighting, antiques and various other project elements that will complete the design concept.
Installation
The moment of truth: This is where the work finally gets done. Once a contractor is in place, we interface with that company to answer questions, flush out final details and provide construction observation and project management if that is your desire. We serve as a resource for the contractor throughout the construction process, observing, coordinating and answering questions as needed. In addition, we are likely to review the painting of the walls, coordinate the hanging of the draperies and paintings, bring in and place the furniture, and/or do whatever else your design scheme dictates.
Once your project is complete, we will have created together a home uniquely yours. One that meets your goals and allows you to say every day, "I love to come home!"
